3. 7th Framework programme
Cordis has recently launched a new website to support ICT research funding through FP7: http://cordis.europa.eu/fp7/ict/. The nearly final work program can be downloaded from that site. Most instruments of FP7 only fund research (such as Collaborative Projects that replace the Integrated Projects and the STREPS of FP6) and are therefore not described in this document.
3.1 Cooperation: Networks of Excellence
My information is that the research topic of EuroSys, systems science, is much too broad for a Network of Excellence.
3.2 Cooperation: Co-ordination/support actions (CSA)
These will most probably be very much like the similar instruments from FP6. The FP7 sites do not yet give details about the new rules of these instruments. The FP6 information can be found in ftp://ftp.cordis.europa.eu/pub/fp6/docs/annex_instruments.pdf and in ftp://ftp.cordis.europa.eu/pub/fp6/docs/synoptic_instruments.pdf .
3.3 Capacities: regions
From the website (http://cordis.europa.eu/fp7/capacities.htm#3) : The 'Regions of Knowledge' initiative aims to strengthen the research potential of European regions by encouraging trans-national networks of regions and research-driven clusters. By assisting regions in increasing their capacity for investing in R&D, it will help to improve regional competitiveness and R&D/knowledge absorption capacities. The actions undertaken in this area will enable European regions to strengthen their capacity for investing in and carrying out research activities, while maximising their potential for a successful involvement of their operators in European research projects. These activities will be implemented in close relationship with the EU's regional policy and the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme (CIP).
This instrument could be interesting for involving Eastern Europe but would need a great deal of work to make it fit to the purpose of the EU. First information is that chances for EuroSys here are low.
3.4 Marie Curie
Marie Curie is a good funding scheme for researchers that want to go abroad for some time. This can be used by our members but is not interesting for EuroSys as an organization. Marie Curie in FP6 also funded conferences. It is not clear yet if this will also be the case in FP7.
